President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that the proposed National Advisory Council will comprise more than 100 experts from a wide range of professional fields to support national policymaking.
The President first revealed plans to establish both a Presidential Advisory Council and a National Advisory Council during the official ceremony marking the Maldives’ 61st Independence Day.
Speaking on PSM’s Nation Chat, President Muizzu said the council would provide a platform for experienced professionals and individuals who have served the country to contribute their expertise to national development.
He explained that the council would operate as a two-way consultative body, allowing members to submit proposals and recommendations while also enabling the government and state institutions to seek their advice on key national issues.
“It is a two-way process. Members will be able to take the initiative to submit proposals, while the government and state institutions can also consult them on important issues,” the President said.
According to President Muizzu, the council will include more than 100 members drawn from various sectors, including public health, medicine, nursing, education and the economy, as well as individuals who have held senior positions and served the nation over many years.
He described the council as a body made up of some of the country’s most qualified professionals who will provide expert guidance whenever needed and also have the opportunity to independently raise issues of national importance.
The President said work is currently underway to finalize the procedures required to establish both councils and expressed hope that they would be formally constituted within the next three months.
