Bank of Maldives (BML) has set a new Guinness World Records title after 314 people took part in a simultaneous snorkeling event at Niva Kurumba Maldives.
The record-breaking event was organised as an environmental awareness initiative, bringing participants together to experience the Maldives’ marine environment while highlighting the importance of protecting its fragile coral reefs.
BML said the initiative was aimed at raising awareness of the threats facing the country’s ocean ecosystems and encouraging individuals and communities to take greater responsibility for conservation.
The event was made possible through the participation and support of BML employees, Niva Kurumba Maldives and guests staying at the resort.
Following official verification of the achievement, the Guinness World Records certificate was presented to BML CEO and Managing Director Mohamed Shareef and Niva Kurumba Maldives General Manager Morten Junior.
The record forms part of BML’s wider environmental efforts through its ENV POS initiative. Under the programme, a portion of the bank’s earnings from every transaction made through a BML POS terminal is directed towards environmental projects, without any additional cost to customers or merchants.
Through ENV POS, BML works with organisations including Parley Maldives and the Maldives Ocean Plastics Alliance (MOPA) to support the recycling and export of ocean-bound plastic waste.
BML said the record demonstrates its commitment to sustainability and community engagement while encouraging people to come together around the shared responsibility of protecting the Maldives’ marine environment.
