An Indian national has been arrested after allegedly attempting to enter Velana International Airport using an access pass issued to another person.
Sanjeeva Reddy Yelma, 45, was arrested and produced before the Criminal Court. The court has extended his detention by 15 days.
According to the remand order, Sanjeeva attempted to enter the airport through Gate 51 on the eastern side. He is legally employed in the Maldives.
Police alleged that he was carrying an Aviation and Port Security Command access pass issued to another foreign national. The pass reportedly belonged to a person whose work visa had already been cancelled.
The court said evidence had been presented indicating that Sanjeeva may have attempted to enter a restricted area without authorization.
During the hearing, Sanjeeva reportedly told the court that the pass had been given to him by his “boss.”
The judge ordered a further 15 days of detention, citing the evidence presented and concerns over a possible threat to public safety.
