Maldivian has officially appointed MEGACAP Aviation Services Limited as its General Sales Agent in China. This strategic move is designed to strengthen air travel connectivity between the two countries and further tap into one of the Maldives’ most important tourism markets.

To support this expansion, Maldivian utilizes wide-body Airbus A330-200 aircraft. These dedicated flights, which began in January 2025, have already contributed to a noticeable increase in Chinese tourist arrivals. The airline currently offers a three-class configuration—Business, Premium Economy, and Economy—to cater to diverse traveler needs.

Managing Director Ibrahim Iyas stated that the Chinese market remains a key priority within the airline’s international network. He noted that the appointment of MEGACAP reflects the airline’s commitment to expanding its presence in the region and building stronger commercial relationships. Through this partnership, Maldivian aims to leverage industry expertise to collaborate with key stakeholders across China’s tourism sector, enhancing brand visibility and supporting long-term growth.

China continues to be a vital source market for the Maldivian tourism industry. According to the latest statistics, the Maldives welcomed 329,110 visitors from China last year, representing a 25 percent increase compared to the previous year. As of mid-March this year, 86,464 Chinese tourists have already arrived, accounting for a 15.6 percent share of total arrivals.

By securing a dedicated sales agent in the region, Maldivian expects to create more seamless opportunities for Chinese travelers to visit the islands, ensuring the Maldives remains a top-tier destination for the market.
