The Malé City Council has announced a tender seeking a contractor to carry out repair and maintenance work on the Sinamalé flats and their elevators.
According to the Council, the selected contractor will be responsible for maintaining Sinamalé Phases 1, 2, 3, and 4 for a period of one year. Interested parties must attend an information session next Thursday, and bid submissions are due on the seventh day of the following month.
Additionally, the Council opened a separate tender to repair and service elevators in both the Sinamalé and Malé Hiyaa flats. Proposals for this project must be submitted by the fifth day of next month following the information session.
The Council noted that these tenders were announced while the government plans to demolish the existing flats and construct new buildings; however, redevelopment has not yet commenced.
President Mohamed Muizzu previously pledged special measures to address the challenges faced by residents, including waiving fines for unpaid rent and providing MVR 100,000 per flat for structural damage. Residents who have already completed their payments will also receive the same amount as compensation. The government’s broader objective is to redevelop the deteriorating buildings to ensure safer housing for all residents.
