The Government of the Maldives has strongly condemned the ongoing attacks targeting energy production facilities in Iran.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the government expressed deep concern over the strikes, which have reportedly targeted critical infrastructure. The statement emphasized that such actions, particularly those aimed at energy facilities linked to the South Pars gas field, are unacceptable and constitute a violation of international law.
The government highlighted that these facilities are vital not only to Iran but also to the broader region, as they involve shared natural resources. According to the Ministry, these actions pose a serious threat to regional stability and could significantly disrupt global energy security.
Furthermore, the Maldives condemned similar attacks targeting commercial and energy facilities in neighboring countries, including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Kuwait. The government noted that strikes on key infrastructure—such as oil production facilities, water desalination plants, and airports—severely impact civilian life and increase instability across the Middle East.
President Mohamed Muizzu’s administration has called for an immediate cessation of hostilities and urged all parties to pursue peaceful, diplomatic solutions. The Maldives also appealed to the international community to intensify diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions and work toward a sustainable resolution to the conflict.
