A foreign national has been taken into custody for allegedly attempting to smuggle drugs into the Maldives via Addu City.
According to police, Saldin Walimohmad Ruppin, 58, was apprehended at Gan International Airport last Tuesday. He was first detained by customs officials before being handed over to law enforcement under a court order.
Authorities allege that the suspect attempted to bring approximately 2 kilograms of illegal drugs into the country.
Police have not released further information, stating that investigations into the case are still ongoing.
