Each eligible individual among the poor and needy in the Maldives has received MVR 6,000 as part of this year’s Zakat al-Fitr distribution.
According to the Zakat House Maldives, over MVR 14 million has been collected nationwide, with MVR 13,896,000 already distributed to beneficiaries. This represents the highest per-person Zakat al-Fitr distribution recorded in the country to date.
The distribution also included 62 vulnerable children, including orphans, ensuring broader social support through the initiative.
To improve accessibility, Zakat al-Fitr payments were facilitated through seven digital platforms this year, making it easier for people to contribute. In addition, a dedicated online portal was introduced to allow island councils to deposit funds collected in cash, supporting those unable to use online payment methods.
In the capital Malé, contributions were also accepted in person at the Islamic Center, including both cash and food items such as grain, which were later distributed accordingly.
Zakat House highlighted that the use of digital systems enabled daily monitoring of contributions, ensuring a transparent and fair distribution process for registered individuals across the country.
