The National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) has revealed that more than 14,000 People with Disabilities (PWDs) received financial assistance in December.
According to data released by the agency, a total of USD 3.4 million was disbursed to 14,816 individuals with disabilities during the month. As of December, 15,059 people were registered with the NSPA, of whom 8,736 were male and 6,323 were female.
Statistics from the disability registry show that the largest group of registered persons falls under the physical disability category, with 4,223 individuals. This is followed by multiple disabilities, which account for 3,396 people.
The registry further categorises registered persons as follows: 2,116 people with mental disabilities, 1,871 with neurological disabilities, 1,791 with hearing and speech disabilities, and 1,018 with visual impairments. Additionally, 588 individuals are registered under the autism category, while 56 are listed as having learning disabilities.
The disability allowance has been provided to eligible individuals since 2011 as part of the government’s social protection measures. In 2023, the monthly allowance was increased to USD 194, reflecting efforts to enhance support for people with disabilities and improve their quality of life.
The NSPA continues to manage the disability registry and disburse financial assistance, aiming to ensure that support reaches those in need in a timely and transparent manner.
