The government is making notable progress in its efforts to nurture a generation grounded in nationalism, responsibility, and holistic well-being through the National Service Programme, initiated by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.
The programme has received strong public response, with 344 participants graduating from its first phase. Many of these graduates have gone on to pursue further vocational training at the military training centre in Kihaadhoo, Baa Atoll, a move aimed at equipping them with practical and technical skills for future employment.
The initiative is designed for youth who have completed their initial National Service training. Currently, 66 participants from 35 islands across 15 atolls are enrolled in the four-month programme. It offers specialised instruction in leadership development, nationalism, religious studies, and language proficiency, alongside physical training and character-building activities.
Upon completion, participants will receive a Level 3 certification, which is expected to enhance their readiness for careers in national security services and other structured professions.
President Muizzu has highlighted that the broader objective of the programme is to develop self-reliant, spiritually grounded, and patriotic citizens while addressing key social challenges. By combining education, discipline, and service, the government aims to strengthen national identity and civic responsibility among Maldivian youth.
Training sessions, currently being conducted in Maafilaafushi, include specialised modules focused on resilience, positive behaviour, and personal development. Officials believe this comprehensive approach will help shape well-rounded individuals capable of contributing meaningfully to society.
The government has expressed confidence that the programme will play a crucial role in reducing negative social trends while reinforcing loyalty to the nation and its core values.
