A police officer on duty on the Sinamale’ Bridge highway was seriously injured at around 4:29am after a speeding motorcyclist lost control and crashed into him.
According to a police media official, the motorcyclist was travelling from Malé towards Hulhumalé and had been stopped by officers before the collision. The rider was taken into custody and reportedly escaped serious injuries.
Police had also conducted extensive vehicle checks last night, temporarily closing several major roads in Malé and Hulhumalé, including Boduthakurufaanu Magu, the Sinamale’ Bridge highway and roads connecting Hulhumalé Phase 2.
The crash comes amid growing concerns over speeding and serious road accidents in Malé and Hulhumalé, prompting increased police checks and traffic enforcement.
