Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company Limited (MIFCO) has increased its purchase price for skipjack tuna to MVR 21 per kilogramme, effective today.
The new rate will apply to purchases made through MIFCO facilities and fish-collecting vessels at Felivaru Fisheries Complex, Felivaru Harbour, Kooddoo Fisheries Complex, Addu Fisheries Complex, GDh. Thinadhoo, Laamu Maamendhoo, Malé Harbour and Raa. Maduvvari Harbour.
MIFCO previously increased the skipjack purchase price to MVR 20 per kilogramme on 14 June. The latest adjustment represents an additional MVR 1 per kilogramme.
The company said its purchase prices are adjusted based on international fish-market conditions and MIFCO’s operational situation.
The Government has also been implementing measures aimed at strengthening the fisheries sector and improving conditions for fishermen. Under the current system, fishermen are expected to receive payment for their catch within 48 hours.
