A police officer was injured after a motorcyclist allegedly drove into him while he was controlling traffic in Malé City and then attempted to flee the scene.
According to police, the incident occurred at around 5:34pm on Friday at the junction of Chaandhanee Magu and Majeedhee Magu.
The officer, who was on duty at the time, sustained injuries in the incident. Police said the injuries were not serious.
Police arrested a 23-year-old man identified as Saain Abdul Gayoom of Hathi, GDh. Faresmaathoda, in connection with the incident.
He was presented before court on Saturday for a remand hearing, following which the court ordered him to remain in police custody for 15 days.
The motorcycle involved in the incident was also towed by police.
Authorities said further investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing.
Police have previously reported incidents involving motorists allegedly failing to follow instructions from officers conducting traffic control, including cases in which traffic officers have been struck by vehicles.
The latest incident has once again raised concerns over the safety of officers assigned to manage traffic on the increasingly congested roads of Malé.
