Former Football Association of Maldives (FAM) President Bassam Adeel Jaleel has been temporarily transferred to house arrest due to health concerns.
The Maldives Correctional Service said the decision was made following a recommendation from the Medical Board. Officials did not specify how long the arrangement will remain in place.
Bassam was previously placed under house arrest in March but was returned to prison less than 24 hours later following public criticism. At the time, authorities said the move was made on medical grounds after surgery and that he was returned once suitable post-operative facilities were arranged at the prison.
Bassam is currently serving a combined 32-year prison sentence for corruption-related offences, including embezzlement of FAM funds, money laundering and misuse of FIFA COVID-19 relief funds intended for football clubs.
Prosecutors had also alleged that money taken from FAM was used to purchase an apartment in Hulhumalé.
