President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that the names of all beneficiaries selected for government flats and land plots under the “Housing for All” programme will be released before the end of 2026.
Speaking during a press conference at the President’s Office, the President reaffirmed that providing housing remains one of his administration’s key promises. He assured the public that allocations would be based strictly on eligibility and merit, with no consideration given to personal relationships or political influence.
According to the President, flat applicants will be ranked through a points-based evaluation system. Once the selection process is completed, the full list of recipients and their assigned housing projects will be made public. Beneficiaries of land plots are also expected to be announced within the same period.
Addressing construction progress, President Muizzu stated that foundation work for most new housing developments in the Greater Male’ area is expected to begin in July. He expressed confidence that the apartment projects would be completed by July 2028 at the latest.
The President also noted that the land allocation programme depends on the completion of dredging work in Rasmale’. Around 60 percent of the dredging has already been completed, although rising fuel prices have caused delays. To speed up the process, the government plans to deploy two dredgers and aims to finish the project before the end of 2026.
The housing programme has generated significant public interest, receiving a total of 58,505 applications, including 35,930 applications for flats and 22,575 applications for land plots.
