A former senior producer at Television Maldives (TVM) has been arrested in connection with serious allegations of grooming and sexually abusing a minor, police confirmed.
The suspect, Moosal Mueen (37), from G.Dh. Fiyoari, was taken into custody on Thursday following an investigation into offences involving a child. According to police, he is accused of making inappropriate remarks to a minor, attempting to groom and exploit the child, and engaging in sexual conduct involving underage individuals. Authorities also allege that he stored and possessed child sexual abuse material on electronic devices.
He was presented before court for a remand hearing on Thursday and has been ordered to remain in custody for 15 days as investigations continue.
Local sources indicate that Mueen was recently dismissed from his role at TVM in connection with the case. He had previously served as a senior producer and was involved in producing several popular children’s programmes.
The case is being investigated by the Maldives Police Service Family and Child Protection Department, which handles cases involving children and vulnerable individuals. Police emphasised that all offences involving minors, including grooming, exploitation, and possession or distribution of illegal material, are treated with the highest priority.
Authorities have not released further details due to the sensitive nature of the case, and investigations remain ongoing.
