Singapore Airlines has become the newest carrier to operate from Terminal 1 at Velana International Airport, further expanding the terminal’s growing airline roster.
According to Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), Terminal 1 is now home to 32 airlines. The move by Singapore Airlines was marked with a ceremonial opening of its check-in counters at the airport.
To commemorate the first day of operations, departing passengers received gifts, while arriving travelers were welcomed with traditional cultural performances. In total, 205 outbound passengers and 244 inbound passengers were part of the inaugural Terminal 1 operations for the airline.
The first Singapore Airlines service to use Terminal 1 was operated with an Airbus A350, making it the first time this aircraft type was handled at the terminal.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Tourism reported in its latest Weekly Tourism Update that 35 airlines are currently flying to the Maldives. With the majority now operating from Terminal 1, MACL said the focus remains on delivering efficient, high-quality services to all airlines and passengers using the new facility.
